WHAT Five people were hospitalized at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital after suffering carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning while attending a party in an enclosed room with a running generator.

  • Location: A restaurant in Chanh Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City
  • Victims: Five party attendees, treated at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital.
WHY – HOW
  • The party took place in an enclosed room, next to a running generator.
  • After about one hour, staff found the victims collapsed on the floor, semi-conscious, and vomiting.
  • All five were rushed to the hospital, diagnosed with CO poisoning – a colorless, odorless, and highly toxic gas.
CONSEQUENCE All five victims suffered reduced consciousness, headaches, and vomiting, but survived thanks to prompt emergency treatment. After high-flow oxygen therapy and fluid replacement, their conditions stabilized, and they are now under medical observation.
LESSION LEARNT
  • Never place or operate generators in enclosed spaces, especially near occupied areas.
  • Ensure proper ventilation when using any device that produces exhaust gases.
  • Install CO detectors in restaurants, hotels, and residential areas.
  • Recognize early CO poisoning symptoms: headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue.
  • Move victims to fresh air and call emergency services immediately.
