Father and Son Found Dead from Generator CO Poisoning in Nghe An – Sep 30, 2025

   

WHAT A father and his son were found dead in their bedroom, suspected to have died from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning emitted by a generator during a power outage.
WHEN – WHERE – WHO
  • Time: Noon, September 30, 2025
  • Location: Cua Lo Town, Nghe An Province, Vietnam
  • Victims: 34-year-old father and his 7-year-old son. The wife and two daughters were away visiting relatives.
WHY – HOW
  • After Typhoon No.10, the area suffered widespread power outages.
  • The family used a generator indoors with poor ventilation.
  • The generator emitted CO gas—colorless, odorless, and highly toxic.
  • The gas accumulated in the room, leading to suffocation and death.
CONSEQUENCE
  • The father and son died at the scene, causing public concern and awareness about the dangers of using generators indoors.
LESSION LEARNT
  • Never operate generators indoors or in enclosed areas.
  • Place generators outdoors, at least 6 meters (20 feet) from doors and windows.
  • Install CO detectors at home.
  • If feeling dizzy, nauseous, or headache — leave immediately and call for help.
  • Raise community awareness about CO risks during storm and blackout periods.
